I have been a plant (and animal) lover all my life, I started buy house plants at the age of 16 and still have that very first plant....a Philodendren (see picture) to this day. Let's just say I have had it over 45 years now!
When Mike and I moved to CO. in July of 1989 from WI. we brought 33 of my house plants in the moving truck with us. When we got to our rental house we set the plants in the courtyard and started to unload the truck...a big hail storm came over and just destroyed 95% of the plants!!! I had to start all over so now a lot of my (50-60) plants are about 35 yrs. old or newer. In 1997 I took the Master Gardener Class through the El Paso County Extention office, years later it helped me get a fun job at Home Depot in the Garden Dept. and it paid really well too!
I have a sunroom on the south side of the house with its own swamp cooler to keep it cool in the summer but in the winter it heats up the whole main level of the house until dark. Then between the furnace and backup space heaters the room stays a comfortable temperature all night.
For the past 20 years I have been taking cuttings from my parent plants and starting new plants in 6" & 8" pots. The pots are plastic, brandnew and all have drainage trays attached. I usually list about 12-15 at a time on CraigsList for $10-$15, I have never shipped plants...people drive to get them.
