We moved into our farm in August of 2019, the place where we would enjoy the peace and quiet of the country.
What can you do with 60 acres of land?? Why, you fill it with livestock!! I (Joanne) wanted this beautiful friesian filly horse but she was too expensive, so we said no, but the guy had these two alpacas, Peter and Paul for sale for $500. Oh why not, we just moved to the country, we have 60 acres to fill with amazing farm animals!! Drive 4 hours for these two alpacas...and naturally the horse came home too! We renamed Peter and Paul to Scotch and Whiskey...who both are now retired and living in Nova Scotia living their best life!
With 3 horses, 2 alpacas and 5 goats we were FARMING! Well, not really! Decided to sell the horses and buy more alpacas, but pregnant alpacas...how about 8 of them! Our herd grew pretty quick by 2020 and of course COVID set in. We learned to breed alpacas and have since been learning every facet of them. We also slowly started have visitors to the farm. Then we got sheep and don't forget about the potebelly pigs we had to have!! Then that was fun, but was bad at the same time! We were getting too many species to manage, while both working full time!! But we were FARMING!!!
Next thing we know, we are booking tours and making some cash to pay for feed ,vet bills and a new barn for the Mommas and babies (which they use exclusively as an outhouse). Plus we discovered Alpaca Ontario and alpaca shows! The alpaca mingle tours exploded in 2022 when COVID opened up and people needed to get out of their house!
So here we are today, with a herd of approximately 34ish alpacas (both Huacaya and Suri breeds), 4 llamas, 2 emus, a bunch of chickens, ducks and geese. We show our alpacas a few times a year, we have an annual fall farm market, we do alpaca mingles and alpaca walks. We do group retreats, bachelorette parties, birthday parties, school tours, and we even had a wedding in 2024!
We have a program that supports military personel returning to duty, we get students their high school volunteer hours, and of course, if you need farm therapy, we can definitely hook you up with some of that!
So reach out to us today to book your tour or event and we look forward to meeting you!
