Great Pyrenees Livestock Guard dog are an essential part of our alpaca operation. We live in an area where deer are hunted with packs of dogs, so free roaming dogs are a potential problem for our alpacas. The Great Pyrenees go out to “greet” dogs that approach our fence line and the visitors soon leave. We live in coyote country but with the pyrs in the pastures we can sleep at night without worrying about our alpacas. Great Pyrenees do bark frequently so one might lose sleep at night listening to Pyrs mark their territory.
