2021 Brings on Changes: I’m in…No, I’m out…Wait, I’m in.
Time for honesty, folks. At the end of 2019, after 10 years, I was strongly considering leaving alpaca farming to do some traveling. Dealing with livestock is not a hobby. Snow, rain, holidays or needing time away; these beautiful creatures need dedicated, responsible care so I just couldn’t leave for any longer periods. I was all in for those 10 years.
The appeal of travel and seeing new places was becoming increasingly exciting so I began to shift my mindset. Then the pandemic hit and that took the wind right out of my sails and left me feeling in limbo. I struggled with this year-long, stuck-feeling as I whittled down to the truth. The truth is I so enjoy…no, LOVE these animals and the folks in this alpaca industry. At a show in 2019, I remember the feeling of arriving at the hotel, looking out of the 10th floor and watching trucks & trailers from all over the country pull in to the parking lot. I had the overwhelming and heart-warming feeling that ‘these are my people’.

We are fine-tuning our focus more toward greys and have transitioned to a smaller, all-female herd only.
I have had the wonderful opportunity and honor to meet new clients and reconnect with previous clients. Their excitement and sincere motivation to begin or expand in their alpaca business is endearing. After several visits and great conversations, they all left here with some real sweet gems as we down-sized. I know those alpacas have graduated on to loving homes where they will continue to be well cared for and loved. Above all, it’s so nice having these new and ongoing friendships.
