Alpaca Kisses
Alpaca Kisses
An educational program designed to expose senior citizens, k-12 students, persons with special needs, minorities, urban and suburban populations to the beautiful, gentle, ethereal teddy bear animals. Part of the camelid family, they were domesticated millions of years ago by the Incas and originated in Bolivia, South America, and Peru. The alpacas were brought to the United States for the first time in 1984.
These gentle animals are believed to be very intelligent and very curious and are believed to be therapeutic and in-touch with the human condition. Our alpacas are vey outgoing and love giving kisses and being hugged. They are used to being held from birth. There is a theory that alpacas come into your life in a time of need. Being in touch with human nature, they provide comfort, and support. Our situation was no different.
Alpacas are sought after for their soft, luxurious, hypoallergenic fiber, (10) ten times warmer than wool. They are shorn once a year in the spring. They eat hay and a small amount of grain but mostly graze in pastures. They are herd animals and require very little care as they graze, run, and play with the other alpacas.
Alpaca Kisses takes two alpacas to Nursing Homes, and Assisted Living Facilities for a two and a half hour (2 ½) educational program. How exciting to see, feel, touch and be kissed by these extraordinary creatures. In addition to hearing about Peru, (their homeland) residents see artifacts from Peru, products made from their fiber, and take pictures with the alpacas. It is an exciting, fun-filled educational program.
The 2022 Schedule will be announced.
