HEART KANDI (BLACK-BASED HARLEQUIN) (Bred to PBR Divine Jaguar)Bred

Huacaya, Bred (Female), Proven | White, Light Brown, Medium Brown, True Black

    AOA# 035589037   D.O.B. 5/29/2018 (8 yrs)  (Due Date: 2/14/2027), 5/8 Peruvian, 1/8 Bolivian, 1/4 Chilean

    Sire:
    Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia
    | AOA# 32132649  | Medium Silver Grey  |
Taupie is a striking appaloosa harlequin male that is on a roll for throwing spotted and harlequin offspring. He has sired 53 offspring and 74% are either appaloosa or harlequin! While dam selection has a significant influence on such outcomes, it should be noted that the majority of the dams Taupie has been bred to have no genetic influence on this outcome. So for those that don't have existing foundation girls with appy/harlequin lineage -- Taupie has proven to be capable of passing along his appy genetics and produce desired results.

So how does this happen? Only part of that story is known, but what we DO know is that certain lines of known appy gene carriers are much more "expressive" than others. Taupie just happens to be one of those. His heritage boasts appaloosa genetics on both sides of his lineage with Aussie Rockford out of Hannahruh on his sire's side and Chiquita Import on his dam's side.

In April 2016, Taupie's progeny debuted in the show ring taking a blue in walking fleece and the blue in halter at the California Classic. This was Enchanted Hill LuTau, who is a beautiful stud himself! This first boy was then followed by another appaloosa female and then another appy male-- both very similar to the first. The fourth cria, however, is something extra special! This little girl has expressed every color on the chart, not one pattern-- just speckles and spots from nose to toes-The unique coloring of this cria looks as though the color from Taupie's Grand Dam, Chiquita Import, is coming through and producing the rarest of rare gems-- her beautiful color seems to morph before your eyes!

As much fun as it is to talk about Taupie's progeny... more about him! Taupie has a spotted face, spotted belly, spotted legs, and a beautiful solid platinum-taupe blanket. His top line is a nice medium silver grey, then blending into light silver grey down the sides.

    Dam:
    Bisturi's Periwinkle
    | AOA# 31550765  | White, Light Brown, Medium Rose Grey  |
Another coveted daughter of an incredible black female, Hvla Poppy, Bisturi's Periwinkle has a beautiful Dark rose grey fleece and Vicuna pattern and a unique phenotype. Her fiber has an excellent crimp. She is a great foundation dam and a stellar breeder. She never has a problem getting pregnant, holding her pregnancies, delivers large 20lb plus babies, has tons of milk and is the most attentive of moms. Periwinkle threw a harlequin/appaloosa in 2018, Heart Kandi (check out her page) when bred to harlequin/appaloosa herdsire, Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia. The following year she impressively threw another wildly-spotted, rare and classic appaloosa/harlequin, PBR Gentlemen's Fascination, out of Apache Gentlemen. Then once again, in 2020, we paired her up with Apache Gentlemen, and she threw another gorgeous harlequin/appaloosa, PBR Apache's Spark's Fly. That's 3 for 3 when bred for appaloosa/harlequin.

Her sire is Bisturi, one of the most consistent producers of grey and black offspring and is considered a legendary herdsire. Bisturi moved to Austria in 2013 and, at 12 years old, has a fabulous, uniformly grey-colored fleece. He has an impressive pedigree. Of over 100 offspring, 55 greys and 25 black animals are on the ground. Bisturi is a fabulous stallion with numerous victories on which he has proven his uniqueness.

    Service Sire:
    PBR DIVINE JAGUAR XKE (APPALOOSA)
    | AOA# 36273379  | White, Light Fawn, Light Brown  |
At Plateau Breeze Ranch, every breeding decision is made with purpose, precision, and a vision for excellence—and PBR Divine Jaguar XKE is the perfect result of such careful planning. From the moment he entered the world, Jaguar was destined for greatness, bringing together the incredible fleece fineness of PBR Divine World’s Bellagio and the superior spotting of PBR Haya’s Speck-Tac-ular Bentley. The outcome? An appaloosa male with undeniable brightness, density, character, and striking fleece that has impressed from day one. Jaguar is the next-generation with a stronger, more penetrant pattern allele. His phenotype shows deeper dilution, more zones of melanocyte, more complex marbling and higher pattern penetrance. This means Jaguar can force pattern expression even in dams who only carry subtle or hidden pattern genetics. Jaguar inherited a more unstable pigment distribution, stronger dilution modifiers and a more chaotic melanocyte migration pattern. This creates louder pattern, more unpredictable spotting, more dramatic harlequin shifts and a higher probability of multi-zone expression

Jaguar’s sire, PBR Divine World’s Bellagio, is nothing short of legendary—a grandson of Snowmass Divine Love, whose elite genetics have been passed down in the form of micron-adjusted uniformity (17.4 afd!), extreme brightness, and advanced fleece structure. Bellagio’s dominance in the show ring speaks for itself, winning Champion at both the 2020 AOA National Show and the 2021 Paoba Fleece Show. But his true legacy lies in his ability to consistently pass down his remarkable fleece quality, a trait Jaguar proudly carries forward.

On the maternal side, PBR Haya’s Speck-Tac-ular Bentley reinforces Jaguar’s status as a genetic powerhouse. As a granddaughter of Derwydd Peruvian Haya, Bentley is revered for her phenotype, exceptional balance, and spotless blanket fleece, with dazzling spots that grace her legs and face. With Peruvian Magnifico and El Niño in her pedigree, Jaguar inherits elite fleece density and refined characteristics that set him apart from the rest.

Whether admired for his phenomenal fleece or his powerful genetic foundation, PBR Divine Jaguar XKE is the kind of male that elevates breeding programs. He represents the perfect fusion of refinement and rarity, carrying forward a legacy of elite fleece, championship bloodlines, and undeniable presence. Simply put—Jaguar is the future of appaloosa breeding, and we couldn’t be more proud to have him at Plateau Breeze Ranch.

    Description

At Plateau Breeze Ranch, rarity isn’t just something we admire—it’s something we cultivate, celebrate, and cherish. And when it comes to Rare Gem Heart Kandi, we struck gold. This knockout brown beauty, with her excellent fleece density and striking crimp, is a true standout—not just in presence, but in pedigree, potential, and undeniable charm.

From the moment she arrived, Kandi showcased her distinct appaloosa heritage, displaying unique black and blueberry spotting along her underside and legs. But her most exciting transformation has been her newly emerging brindle patterning—a thrilling development that confirms she is a rare harlequin in the making. Watching her evolve has been nothing short of mesmerizing. Heart Kandi carries a stacked harlequin–appaloosa genetic architecture built from three powerful pattern lines: Hannahruh, Bisturi, and Victor. Her sire, Vintage Cashmere U-Taupe-ia, contributes the Hannahruh dilution complex, a system known for pigment drift, shifting fawn/grey transitions, and the ability to unlock hidden pattern alleles in offspring. Her dam, Bisturi’s Periwinkle, brings the unmistakable Bisturi grey/harlequin system, which drives mosaic melanocyte suppression, rose-grey development, and the multi-tone marbling that defines true harlequin expression. The Victor influence adds depth of color, strong eumelanin anchoring, and the capacity for dark pattern zones such as true black. Kandi’s own phenotype—white, light brown, medium brown, and true black expressed from birth—confirms that she carries a dominant harlequin allele supported by multiple dilution and pattern-amplifying modifiers. Her ability to produce patterned crias consistently, including harlequin and appaloosa offspring, demonstrates high penetrance and strong genetic reliability within her line.

Kandi was born a harlequin, and her genetics explain why. Her dad gives her the genes that make color shift and break apart, and her mom gives her the Bisturi grey/harlequin genes that make those shifts bold and dramatic. That’s why she shows multiple colors and why she reliably produces loud, beautifully patterned babies.

For Kandi's 2026 breeding we chose PBR Divine Jaguar, an appaloosa male with undeniable brightness, density, character, and striking fleece that has impressed from day one. This creates louder pattern, more unpredictable spotting, more dramatic harlequin shifts and a higher probability of multi-zone expression.
