Spring hails from the distinguished Illini Appaloosa herd, tracing her lineage back to the legendary Vintage Peruvian Confetti, an elusive appaloosa who passed down his remarkable spotting gene. As she matures, Spring reveals the brilliance of her heritage—dark markings emerging on her face, a genetic surprise that continues to unfold in the most mesmerizing way. ILLINI’S Artesian Spring carries a classic Confetti-line harlequin/appaloosa genetic foundation, strengthened by pigment-instability lines from Codi Peruvian Jolie and the deep-color Socosani influence. As a direct daughter of Vintage Peruvian Confetti, she inherits the Confetti hallmark: strong melanocyte-migration variability, dilution cycling, and the ability to express multiple color zones even when born light. Her dam, SASA Sara Smile, adds the Socosani bay-black depth and the Codi Jolie dilution modifiers, a combination known for producing offspring that fade, shift, and reveal pattern over time. Spring’s own phenotype—white, medium fawn, dark fawn, and fading fawn—reflects this interaction of harlequin-permissive alleles and dilution-driven color drift, confirming that she carries both the pattern-initiating genetics of Confetti and the color-deepening genetics of her dam’s line. This makes her a highly reliable producer of patterned crias, especially when paired with males carrying appaloosa or harlequin alleles.

Spring is built from the Confetti line, so she naturally carries the genes that cause pattern. Her mom adds dark color depth and fading/dilution genes. For Spring's 2026 breeding we chose PBR Divine Jaguar, An appaloosa male with undeniable brightness, density, character, and striking fleece that has impressed from day one. Jaguar is the next-generation with a stronger, more penetrant pattern allele. His phenotype shows deeper dilution, more zones of melanocyte, more complex marbling and higher pattern penetrance. This means Jaguar can force pattern expression even in dams who only carry subtle or hidden pattern genetics. Jaguar inherited a more unstable pigment distribution, stronger dilution modifiers and a more chaotic melanocyte migration pattern. This creates louder pattern, more unpredictable spotting, more dramatic harlequin shifts and a higher probability of multi-zone expression.
