Description

Rocky has been worth his weight in gold. He has competed in performance with a number of youth, always working his heart out and helping them achieve their goals. When we started in 4-H, Colton borrowed Rocky from another farm, as we were still learning and none of our alpacas were quite right for him. Rocky seemed to like Colton and they got along well. When Rocky came up on their sales list, I bought him. They have been together ever since.

Colton and Rocky went right to the top, learning so much along the way over the last 5 years together. Rocky missed 2022 Nationals, as he was injured just a week before we were due to leave for the show, but he did very well in other competitions all season, winning many 4-H awards as well. Rocky decided he didn’t like competing much any longer at the end of the season, and we noticed that senior-level jumps were harder for him than they had been, so we made the tough decision that 2022 fall Buckeye would be his last AOA show with Colton.

He flat out has a terrible fleece, even though he’s been gelded; it’s essentially guard hair. He has an extremely dense fleece. But it makes fantastic dryer balls, and I have paid for feed with those dryer balls! #everyfleecehasapurpose

I have also turned Rocky’s fiber into rug yarn, and eventually we will have enough for a very special rug. And he would never win a conformation class. But we do not care; he has been an amazing alpaca to have in our lives and we are glad to have him.

You may see Rocky having fun in some local 4-H or even AOA classes with the juniors and sub-juniors and their much easier obstacles, to protect his joints, but that will be as far as he goes. He has earned his retirement!
