Number 1 Spin Fineness
Double D Alpaca Ranch recently recieved a letter from the Alpaca Registry asking permission to feature Cara Mia and at the AOBA 2013 National Show in a 'looped presentation'. Cara Mia is exhibiting the number one EPD score in three categories. We always knew she was something special. At 10 years of age, she still has incredible fiber and looks to go with it. This is living proof that participating in EPD's levels the 'playing field' for the small farm. Who would have thought that li read more...

Inside the new barn
We puchased portable, green panels from Light Livestock and included creep gates for each enclosure. This is going to work out great for us since we can reconfigure the stalls whenever we wish. We love the creep gates because they can be adjusted as the cria grow. The 2012 cria are all getting close to the age to be weaned but we have decided to wait a while and give them the chance to adjust to such a big move. It has been pretty cold here but nice and DRY. The sun shines most days and thank go read more...

Well, we finally did it! Friday, December 14th, Donna's son, Brian came from Boise, Idaho with a 24' stock trailer and we loaded 25 alpacas in record time (less than one hour) and away they went, up Hwy. 84 and thru a snow storm headed for Touchet, WA. Dave was in the lead with his Toyota, Tundra pulling a flat bed trailer loaded with an antique manure spreader and assorted other farm acoutrements. 'looked a little like the Clampets from Beverly Hillbillies. For those of you under the age of 40, read more...

Double D Alpaca Entrance
We spent the weekend at our new farm in Touchet, WA working on the barn and laying out some fencing. The barn is 80% done now. Whew! Dave has really been knocking himself out trying to work for money back in Oregon, and get the place in Touchet ready for our alpacas. I am afraid I have not been much help with the carpentry but I do keep him well supplied with pies. I made an apple/cherry pie this weekend and he said it was the best ever. We hung our sign on the entrance gate to announce our pen read more...

Tiger Lilly & Siggy at New Home
Congratulations to Jenny Hunter of Brookside Farms in Boise, Idaho on the purchase of Tiger Lilly Too and her cria, Siggy. Tiger Lilly and Siggy made the trip in our van all the way to Boise this weekend to their new home. When Tiger lilly arrived she was so happy to get out of the van and see her new home. The first to greet her were three adorable pigmy goats. Tiger Liily stopped in her tracks as if to say, "Those do not look like alpacas to me!" When she spotted two female suris in the padd read more...

On our way back from our new place in Touchet, WA a few weeks ago we passed a turnout on Hwy. 12 and my husband said, "Oh S^$#&U%&^*". I said what's wrong and he said, "There are a bunch of puppies back at that turnout". We turned around and went back to find nine puppies abandoned in the middle of no where. They were about 6 weeks old and one of them came bouncing up to me as if to say, "It's about time you got here". We think he chose us and decided to keep him and one of his brothers for co read more...

We just had our 6th annual Alpaca Extravaganza September 29th and 30th and it was more fun than ever! What a turnout! I am sure that we had over 300 people visit our farm over the weekend. We had fiber felting demonstrations by Beckyt Peterson of Windy Ridge Alpacas on Saturday and Emily Cackler and her mother, Susan showed us how to make a drop spindle using a dowl and cd. Many of our guest learned how to spin. The alpacas enjoyed the treats offered by the guests and our little Penelope was read more...
