Welcome to Wings and A Prayer Alpacas

2025 update...NorthStar has again been awarded Reserve Light Suri Herdsire of the Year!! This stellar herdsire has already proven himself with his offspring and we expect he'll continue to set the bar high for suri herdsires. NorthStar is co-owned with Mill Creek Aloacas, Don & Lyn Wingerter.

Wings & A Prayer Alpacas was established in 1998. Our goal was to enjoy our animals, the lifestyle they offer, and maybe even make a little "extra" money for our future. Our alpaca adventure started with just one female and, at one time, was home to nearly 200 alpacas! We have since downsized to a group of primarily core animals - about 70 alpacas in nearly every color/age/sex.

We offer our Alpacas101 and our AlpacaTrek to our farm visitors, by appointment. Both give an intro to alpacas, Q & A, hand's on, and hand feeding our herd. In addition, the AlpacaTrek gets you your own alpaca, on a halter and lead, to take a guided walk through our wooded farm. These are both by appointment only. Please contact Barbara at 503/263-6944 to schedule.

Prior to alpacas, Randy worked as a Journeyman Mechanic and Barbara was an executive secretary. When our herd kept growing and we were running out of day after working away from the farm and then coming home to "do the alpacas", we realized something had to change - and fast! Randy quit his "paycheck" job in May of 2003 to operate Wings and A Prayer Alpacas full time. Barbara's job was permanently eliminated in July of 2003 and we have been full time alpaca farmers ever since and have never looked back. We feel very fortunate to have found alpacas when we did, and have been able to "retire" from our normal J.O.B. (Just Over Broke!).

We also have a retail alpaca store located on the farm. Store is open by appointment - please contact us to schedule a visit. You'll find hats, scarves, socks, gloves, etc. in a variety of colors, sizes, and prices.

Our herdsires have taken Wings and A Prayer Alpacas to a new level and we have many visiting females (and assorted crias) coming and going for breedings. We have a complete color range from black to white suris, males, females, weanlings, bred females, pet/fiber animals, and packages. Our farm is open, by appointment, to anyone who wants to come by and see or talk about alpacas, whether you are seasoned breeders or merely interested in learning more about alpacas and the lifestyle they offer.

We also raise Great Pyrenees puppies as livestock guardians - ask to be added to our "puppy waiting list". Many of our customers are repeat customers, having either bought a puppy years ago and looking to bring in a puppy to train, or just looking to add an additional guardian to their farms.

Farm Store!

If you're looking for that special something for a gift or a new pair of alpaca socks, etc. for yourself, contact us to schedule a visit to our alpaca farm store. Many items are NOT listed on our website. Many fine alpaca items to choose from including yarn, roving, and raw fiber from our herd. are found in our farm store. Shop local and support your North American alpaca farmers!
