Meet the Farmers Behind Elle Pea Acres
Hi, we’re Kiersten and Thomas, partners in life, purpose, and this little farmstead we call Elle Pea Acres.
Our journey here isn’t the traditional one. We’re both military veterans who’ve navigated some tough terrain, both literal and personal. Thomas, a former aircraft mechanic turned farmer, sustained a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed and changed the course of his life. But instead of letting any of this stop us, it became part of our deeper purpose.
I'm Kiersten, an Applied Anthropologist with a PhD, a lifelong animal lover, and an equestrian who’s logged thousands of miles on my bicycle across the US and on horseback through the backcountry. After working in research for the past decade, I felt the call to bring my heart and hands home, back to the land, back to something real, back to something I love dearly.
Elle Pea Acres is our labor of love. Here, we raise alpacas, grow fresh flowers and produce, and are laying the groundwork for something even bigger, a recreational equine program designed to provide horseback access and healing experiences to people living with disabilities.
We know what it’s like to face inaccessible systems and we’re working to build a different kind of farm. One rooted in care, community, and equity. Whether it’s advocating for adaptive farming equipment, pushing for more inclusive agricultural spaces, or just making space for connection out here among the zinnias and donkeys, we’re in it for the long ride.
Thanks for being part of our story. And if you’re someone who believes in what we’re building…reach out! We’d love to hear from you.
With gratitude,
Kiersten & Thomas
