Our Black-Based Harlequin Line represents a breakthrough in patterned-alpaca genetics — a rare, world-first breeding program built entirely on true black-foundation harlequin expression. While harlequins exist across the globe, black-based harlequins are exceptionally uncommon, and no other ranch has developed a dedicated, multi-animal program focused on this dark, smoky, high-contrast phenotype.
Our foundation animals — Mosaic, Tango, Blueberry, Dark Embrace, Vixen, Diablo and Kandi — each carry the unmistakable hallmarks of black-based harlequin genetics: black skin, black points, early-expressing dilution, and dramatic smoky patterning. Together, they form the only intentional breeding line of its kind, producing offspring with deeper color, stronger contrast, and more predictable dark-harlequin expression than any other harlequin program in existence.
