Alpaca Etiquette
Please review these rules for your safety and the alpacas’ comfort:
- No head or bottom touching. Touching an alpaca’s bottom may result in a swift kick! Always let the alpaca know you’re there before petting.
- Feed with a flat palm only. Never feed directly from the bag. Return all bags—we recycle to keep costs down. Don't throw hem in the trash, Please!
- Be mindful with food bags. Hide your bag if you need to step away; alpacas may jump up (on you) in excitement if they see it.
- Alpacas may “nibble” for attention. This is their way of saying “more food please,” not a bite.
- Kids 3 and under must stay in strollers or wagons. No exception.
- No running, yelling, pushing, or hitting alpacas. You will be excused if you do so.
- Do not climb trees or hills.
- Do not open gates without staff. We’ll guide you safely in and out.
- Please supervise children in the store. Products are not toys!
Weather at YaYa’s Alpaca Farm
We want your visit to be joyful and safe, so here’s how we handle different types of weather:
- Rain – We do not close for rain. Most of your time with the alpacas will be in our covered barns. You might feel a few sprinkles while walking between barns or to the farm store. Umbrellas don’t work well in our space—rain gear is best.
- Severe weather - If alerts are issued and conditions are unsafe, we will contact you accordingly. You’ll be notified by phone and email.
- Footwear – Our pastures have gravel and our barns have concrete floors. Mud boots aren’t required, but please wear what makes you most comfortable. No open toe shoes.
- Snow & Ice – We carefully consider road conditions, travel safety, and weather alerts. If we believe it’s unsafe for guests, we will close and notify you by email.
- High Winds – While rare, if wind becomes dangerous for guests or alpacas, we may close for safety.
- Other Weather Considerations – We take into account extreme heat or cold, as well as any storm watches or warnings, always putting the wellbeing of both our guests and alpacas first.
If we ever need to cancel, you are welcome to reschedule or receive a full refund. Please call us at 816-255-8146 if you have questions.
